KUANTAN: A pharmacist lost RM8,000 in cash after her pharmacy was broken into in Bandar Jengka, Maran, on Monday.

The 42-year-old woman discovered the premises was ransacked when she opened the place for business at about 9am.

State CID deputy chief Supt Mohd Haris Daud said the woman was shocked to find the door of the premises and the safe ajar with the cash missing.

“She then called the police and our initial investigations showed that window panes in the pharmacy had been removed.

“The steel bar of the window had also been forced to curve in such a way to allow a person entry into the premises,” he said here on Tuesday.

He added that the police was trying to trace the culprits.

In an unrelated incident, a 47-year-old man was arrested in a hotel here at about 5pm on Monday and the police seized tools believed to be used to break into houses.

Supt Mohd Haris said before the arrest was made, the man was seen driving around a gold shop at Jalan Mahkota in a Proton Perdana V6 earlier in the morning.

“The suspect was believed to have tried to break into the gold shop but failed after the alarm system was triggered.

“The owner found nothing missing but he still lodged a police report,” he added.

Based on the report and statements by several witnesses who saw the car, the police tracked down the vehicle and managed to trace the driver, he said.

The police also checked the suspect’s car and found tools such as a cutter and a screwdriver, Supt Mohd Haris said, adding, the suspect had 10 previous cases involving robberies, rape and possession of firearms.
